Best Evergreen Fertilizer?

Postby Dolcy » Fri Apr 26, 2013 12:07 pm

Evergreens that grow naturally in the forest derive much of their nutrition from the needle and leaf litter that covers the forest floor. In gardens, that nutrition source is often removed by the gardener, necessitating the use of an evergreen fertilizer. Regular fertilizing might be needed if your evergreens are growing in a less-than-ideal site.

A liquid evergreen fertilizer used with a root feeder can also be effective when the soil is well drained and does not contain much clay. Liquids might not work well in very sandy soils, because the fertilizer might leach through the soil too quickly to benefit the trees. As with spikes, liquids might not be the most cost-effective solution.
